INVITATION TO AN ORIENTATION ON NGO LAW AND REGULATIONS FOR BOARD CHAIRPERSONS OF NGOs

The Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Board of Malawi would like to invite Board Chairpersons of NGOs that did not manage to submit their 2020 reports to an orientation on NGO law and regulations. The aim of the orientation is to enable the chairpersons understand the requirements of the sector on reporting.
The orientation has been scheduled as follows:
18th October, 2021 – Blantyre, Mount Soche Hotel from 09:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
20th October, 2021 – Lilongwe, Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel from 09:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
22nd October, 2021 – Mzuzu, Mzuzu Hotel from 09:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Board envisions an NGO Sector that maximises public benefit by delivering sustainable development through NGO sector regulation. To ensure transparency and accountability, the NGO Act 2001 requires that on an annual basis all NGOs submit audited financial statements, annual return forms, and annual technical reports to the Board. In 2020 however, only 228 out of 643 NGOs complied with the requirement representing 35% of compliance by NGOs. This failure to submit reports results in the NGO sector failing to meet the set accountability bar against global best practices hence the need for the orientation.
Be advised that during the orientation the Board will only provide a conference package. To find out if your NGO Board Chairperson needs to attend the orientation, refer to the list of NGOs that submitted their reports as those who submitted may not be required to attend http://ngoboard.mw/2020-2/ . Board Chairpersons of NGOs which submitted their reports are however free to attend the orientation should they wish to do so. All Board Chairpersons are hereby requested to confirm their attendance and indicate the venue most convenient to them by 10th October, 2021.
